OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Monday, 16 October 1972:
Mrs. Florine Shirey Hairston, 52, of Houston, formerly of Palestine, died Sunday in a Bellaire hospital following an illness of several months.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Hassell & foster Chapel with the Rev. Hilton Sutton officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories, Elkhart. The body will be at Hassell & Foster until after chapel rites.
Mrs. Hairston was born March 10, 1920 in Anderson County to Mrs. Mary Barton Shirey and the late Paris Shirey. She was employed in Houston as a title clerk for the River Oaks Chrysler-Plymouth Agency. She moved form Houston from Palestine 35 years ago.
Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Mary Alexander of Lufkin; one brother, Stephan S. Shirey of Lufkin; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Hagen and Mrs. Glenna Johnson, Both of Houston, and Mrs. Modelle Hargrove of Shreveport; six nephews and two nieces.
