Agnes Hawley, 100, of Hillsboro, IL, died on August 5, 2020, at 9:28 p.m., at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Hillsboro, IL. No services are planned at this time. Cremation rites were accorded.

Mrs. Hawley was born on July 22, 1920, in the Province of Brescia in Italy to Bartolo and Giovanna (Zanni) Malisia. She arrived in the United States in 1922 at the age of two. Agnes married David Henry Hawley on August 17, 1947 in Coffeen, IL. He preceded her on December 12, 1991.

Throughout her lifetime, Agnes lived in Italy; Staunton, IL; Panama, IL; Pekin, IL: and Hillsboro, IL. She spent her early years in Panama, IL, graduating from Panama School. At the age of 17, she began her waitressing career in Pekin, IL. Returning to Panama when her mother became ill, she began working at the Moonlight Y, Hillsboro, IL. Years later, she and her husband, Dave, became managers of the “Y”. Most will remember her best from her years at The Country Squire, Hillsboro, IL.

Agnes was a hard-working, devoted mother and grandmother who loved being with her family. Visits from her grandchildren were always a treat. She loved animals—especially her furry grandbabies. She enjoyed working outside in her yard, watching St. Louis Blues hockey, old fashioned country music, needlework of various sorts and, in later years, her Word Find books.

Agnes is survived by her daughters: Karen (Mark) Barnett of Williamsville, IL and Martha Hawley of Hillsboro, IL; grandchildren: David Hanson of Sherman, IL; Jessica (Matt) Sheerin of Virden, IL, Christopher (Alexandria) Hanson of Springfield, IL, and Aaron (Brooke) Barnett of Breese, IL; great-grandchildren: Cale, Nolan, Henley, and Cameron; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dave, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John Malisia and Leo Malisia.

Memorials may be made to: Cress Hill Cemetery Association, 1615 Vandalia Road, Hillsboro, IL 62049 or Benld Adopt-A-Pet, PO Box 6162, Springfield, IL 62708.
