Buried-18 Sep 1948, Veteran of Air Corps, died in Airplane Crash at Dulag,Leyte,Philippines, the son of Isaac V. Josephson.

LAST MISSION:

2LT. Versel R. Josephson, O-778496, was the Co-Pilot of the C-46D, #44-77341, Call Sign XA395. Assigned to the 5th USAAF, 433rd Troop Carrier Group, 70th Troop Carrier Sq. On 10 March, 1945. They were on a Medical Air Evacuation mission. Departed Mabalacat, Pampanga, Luzon with 30 Medical Evacuees on a flight to Tanauan Air Field, Leyte, Philippines. They encountered bad weather and thunderstorms as they approached the airfield. Radio contact was made with Velvet Tower requesting landing instructions. That was the last they were heard from. An extensive search was conducted over the next several days but was hampered by bad weather conditions. The crash site was discovered many months later on the northwest slope of Mt. Cabangangan in Leyte. The crash site was identified and bodies were recovered. 2LT. Josephson was posthumously awarded the Air Medal. (MACR #13403)
