Gurlie Hinkle Bowers, 98, of Thomasville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. Gurlie was born on September 26, 1919 to the late June Bowers and Della Hinkle Bowers in Davidson County. Mr. Bowers graduated valedictorian of his class at Pilot High School. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was formerly a member of Victory Baptist Church in Thomasville. He served as a deacon at Greenwood Baptist Church in Thomasville, where he is current member. Mr. Bowers married Ellsie Clodfelter on June 3, 1939. He was a loving husband and father. Along with his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Quinn Sipe; two brothers, and two sisters. Surviving are his loving wife of 79 years, Elsie Clodfelter Bowers of the home; two sons, Jim Bowers and wife Nancy of Thomasville, Bob Bowers and wife Shirley of Lexington; his daughter, Carol Sipe and husband Tony of Winston- Salem; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 11 AM at Victory Baptist Church in Thomasville
