The son of Glenn Allen Porter, Sr. and Edna H. McCune, Glenn and his family lived in Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois when he was born.

They moved to Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan for a short time when he was young, and his father worked there as a millwright in steel mill. The family then moved back to Madison County, Illinois in the early 1940's where Glenn's dad worked as a pipefitter at the Sinclair Oil Refinery, and his parents ran a small store in Wanda.

Glenn graduated from Roxana High School in Roxana, Illinois as a member of the Class of 1953. He participated in sports and was a member of the school football and basketball teams.

After high school, Glen began working at Owens-Illinois Incorporated. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955 and went through boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois. He was stationed in San Francisco, California for a time, and later was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Philippine Sea in Long Beach, California.

He met his future wife, (Living) Burr-Cravens, on a blind date in January of 1961. They married on 04 Aug 1961 in Jackson County, Minnesota. They were the parents of 3 children.

Glenn was transferred to Iowa. He and his family lived in Spirit Lake, Iowa for many years before eventually moving back to the Madison County, Illinois area.

He enjoyed spending time with his family. He also liked to hunt waterfowl and go fishing. He loved racehorses and owned a few over the years.

At the time of his death, Glenn was 85 years and 20 days old.

He was survived by his wife; 1 son, (Living) Porter of Franktown, Colorado; 2 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, (Living) Hornibrook of Normandy Park, Washington, and (Living) Hackbarth of Adair, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his mother and father, Glenn was preceded in death by his only sister, Carol Schaberg.

Glenn's death came during the COVID-19 pandemic when there were restrictions on the size of gatherings in Illinois. Visitation was limited to 50 people at a time from 4 to 7 p.m. on 28 Jul 2020 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, Illinois. A funeral mass was conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Edwardsville. COVID-19 restrictions were also observed there.

In accordance with his wishes, the body was cremated.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the Dementia Society of America.
