Visitation is to 5 to 8 tonight at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb, and 10 a.m. Friday until services there at 11 a.m. Her brother, the Rev. Troy Slay, will officiate. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb.
Mrs. Hughes was born Feb. 5, 1931, in McComb, to Hilda Bates Slay and J.J. Slay. She was a retired manager for Target stores in Houston. She was a member of Freeway Baptist Church in Houston.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Charles Hughes; and three brothers, J.D. Fowler, Judson James Slay and Roy Lee Slay.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Kenneth Hughes and Tammie of Big Rock, Tenn., and Paul Wayne Hughes and Claudia of Nurnberg, Germany; two granddaughters, Kendra Hughes and Megan Hughes, both of Big Rock; one grandson, Christopher Wayne Hughes of Nurnberg; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Troy Lee and Marie Slay, and Rufus and Janie Slay, all of Nashville, Tenn., and Floyd and Jeannie Slay of Santa Fe, Texas; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Margaret Slay of Nashville, Nora and Jerry Sauls of Rockport, Texas, Faye and Tommie Adcock, and Mildred and Jimmie Null, all of Houston, and Kathryn and Eddie Dolan of Pearland, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved and was their "Granny"; two aunts, Trudy Deere of Spring Branch, Texas, Ada Didon of McComb; and numerous cousins, most residing in McComb.
