Gwendolyn Stevens Graham, 91, of Troutville, Virginia, was born on December 16, 1928 and passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Bill” Graham; mother, Susie Layman Brown; father, Robert Stevens; stepfather, Hylas Trent Brown Sr.; stepsisters, Wanda Kirby and Ora Nicely; and stepbrother, Hylas Trent Brown Jr.

Gwen is survived by her stepsister, Eva Brown Hooley of Goshen, Ind.; sister-in-law, Barbara Brown of Rocky Mount, Va.; brother-in-law, Haven Nicely of Lexington; special cousin, Mary Ann Obenshain and many other special cousins; very dear stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; son, Bruce W. Graham (Theresa) of Mechanicville, Va.; daughter, Cathy G. Embrey (Lance) of Dallas Ga.; Christopher Graham of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Ross Graham (Triest) of Cedar Hill,, Utah, Catherine Redd (Taylor) of Provo, Utah, Julia Graham of Raleigh, N.C., Gabriel, Maxwell, and Luke Graham, Declan and Quinn Redd; and special friend, Teresa Frye (Steve).

She graduated from Troutville High School and organized many reunions for the Class of 1946. Gwen also organized reunions for the "Layman Family” descendants. She was a member of Hollins Road Baptist Church and the Sunday School Class, Faithful Believers. Gwen’s piano and organ music was enjoyed in many church and nursing homes. She had a career with Allstate Insurance Company and with State Farm Insurance Company. Gwen worked part-time at S.H. Heironimus in Roanoke, Va. She volunteered at Friendship North Rehab as a pianist and at the Brian Center in Fincastle, Va. and she also volunteered as an usher at Mill Mountain Theater. Gwen had so many special friends in her life, too many to list. She was a good friend to so many and people loved her dearly. Gwen always had time to listen to you and loved to talk on the phone. Her lovely smile and contagious giggle will be missed by all. She was kind and endearing to everyone she met, she brightened up every room she entered like a ray of sunshine.

Gwen is now playing the organ for a choir of Heavenly angels.

A Celebration of her Life will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2020, at Oakey’s North Chapel with the Rev. Mark Washington officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Troutville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hollins Road Baptist Church, 3502 Old Mountain Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.
