Sister Barbara earned a Bachelor and Masters of Science in Education from Our Lady of the Lake College, San Antonio, Texas. She served in many capacities throughout her 52 years of ministry that preceded her 18 years of service at Our Lady of the Lake Convent. She was an elementary and middle school teacher, and principal in various schools in Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma for 45 years. In between her years in educational ministry, she served the parishes of Westphalia, Cyclone and Schulenberg, Texas and her Congregation as a Pastoral Care Coordinator. Regardless of her role or location, she cherished her communities and relationships with others.
She is survived by her brother William (Billy) and sister-in-law Marcella Zimmerer; her three sisters Marie Zimmerer; Agnes Betzen; Betty Hellman; and all her Sisters of Divine Providence. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Rose Zimmerer, and siblings Bernard (Ruth), Frank (Lucille), Zimmerer; Sisters Mary Rose and Herman Mary Zimmerer, CDP; Herman, Jr., twin brother Clarence (Charlotte), twin brothers Alvin and Alcuin Zimmerer, and brother-in-law Glenn Hellman.
A rosary and prayer service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020. A Mass of Resurrection and burial will take place on Friday, July 31, 2020. All services will be private.
