Jessie was born Sept. 7, 1915 in Downing, Mo. to Emily and Louis Ruth. Upon graduation from high school, she began her professional career as a school teacher. Then, Jessie went to work for Montgomery Ward as a bookkeeper in Chicago. In 1940, she relocated to Fort Worth with Montgomery Ward. Shortly after, she met Robert "Sog" Lawson. In November 1941, they were married.
Upon Bob's return from World War II, they resided in Fort Worth. In the coming years, they had two wonderful sons, Richard Nelson and Robert Lewis. Jessie was dedicated to her family, her friends and her church. She occupied her time working in the local Fort Worth community, The Garden Club, where she won numerous awards, as well as being a regular member of her bridge club.
Jessie was a longtime member of both Riverside Christian and Richland Hills Christian Church. She often said, her most lifelong friends and most treasured memories were those found at church. Of utmost importance to her, were her children and grandchildren. She was the consummate mother and grandmother. Upon surviving the deaths of her son, Robert, in 1995, and her husband in 2008, Jessie continued to live a very vibrant life.
Jessie is survived by her son, Richard Lawson; daughter-in-law, Ann; granddaughter, Courtney Alwell and her husband, Jon Alwel; grandson, Evan Lawson and his wife ,Shay Lawson; and great-grandchildren, Jack Lawson and Vivienne and Olivia Alwell.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Mount Olivet Cemetery.
