Charles Wayne Moss, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:25 A.M., Thursday, July 23, 2020 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. Charles retired from the Du Quoin Packing Company after 28 years of service. He also retired from the city of Du Quoin filtration plant having served the city for 25 years. Charles attended the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church. He was a member of the Laborers Union, Du Quoin Elks, Du Quoin Eagles and the Du Quoin Sons of the American Legion. Charles was an avid Du Quoin Indians football fan and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was born February 14, 1934 at Du Quoin, IL, the son of Thomas James and Alta (Dennis) Moss. Charles married Hilda Irene Queen on March 28, 1953 at Du Quoin, IL, and she preceded him in death on April 24, 2008. He is survived by daughter , son - , brother -, son-in-law - daughter-in-law - fourteen grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter - Terry Strode, son - Mike Moss, two granddaughters - Katie Strode and Kayla McIntosh, brother - Tom Moss and sister - Betty Moss. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 27, 2020 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Du Quoin with Rev. Ted Clark officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home. Phase Four Restore allows 50 attendees, using social distancing guidelines. Attendees are ask to use masks. Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin is in charge of arrangements.
