Joseph “Thomas” Wharton, 75 of Clarksburg passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at his son’s residence with family by his side. Thomas was born on January 17, 1945 in Morgantown, the son of the late Joseph J and Martha E Welch Wharton. Thomas married his late wife, Mary Ellen Lemley Wharton, on May 25, 1968 and she passed on April 10, 2009.

Thomas graduated from Washington Irving High School. He retired from the WV Department of Highway’s with over forty years of service. Thomas collected coins, stamps and was a Civil War history enthusiast and would participate in reenactments. He loved spending time with his family. Thomas was a member of the Wolf Summit Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Thomas is survived by four children, Rebecca (Danny) McCombs, Smithburg, David Wharton, Atlanta GA, Martha Wharton, New Milton, and Daniel Wharton, Clarksburg; sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; three siblings, Jim Wharton, Fairmont, Bob Wharton, Clarksburg, and Mary Lynn Wharton, Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Dr./Rt. 98, Clarksburg on Sunday, July 26, 2020 from 12:00PM-6:00PM with proper distancing and face mask required. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 11:00am with Rev. Richard Price officiating. Interment will follow at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
