Had Eventful Career - Prominent in Mason Circles

David Ranken, was born in Troy, May 16, 1843. He came of one of the oldest families in Troy and his father was a prominent woolen manufacturer of that place and of Cohoes...was in the merchant marine service, served in Co. B of the 2nd Regiment NY Volunteers Infantry 1861, US Navy 1862-1864, serving in the fleet of Admiral Farragut on the frigate Potomac and on the gunboats Oneida and Montgomery...returned to Troy and worked with his father in the textile mills... was one of the most influential Republician leaders in the city...He was the last survivor of his father's family of 10 children. He married Miss Mary Morrison of Troy,who died in 1914. He had one son, Frederick Ranken...died in 1905..is survived by a nephew, R. Bloss Billings of this city. He leaves no other near relatives.
