Nicholas Deville was the 5th child of Michel DeVille & Maria Elisabeth Fonck. He was born in Fouches/Hachy, Luxmebourg, Belgium. Siblings were Jacques (Agnes Schmit) Deville, Maria Catharina (Pierre) Marchel, Jeanne (Dominique) Conrady, Marie Jeanne (Nicolas) Leis, Pierre (Francisca //) Deville, and Maria (Pierre) Arend.

Nicholas Deville Married Marie Katherine Schentgen on October 13, 1830 at Thiaumont, Luxembourg, Belgium. Their children were all born in Beligum (Thiaumont & Hachy): Maria (Mrs. Peter) Thomas of Portland, Ore.; Nicolas (died young in Belgium); Johanna (Mrs. Nicolas) Zorn of St. Anna, Wis.; Catherine "Kate" (Mrs. Michael) Petit of Aurora, Ill.; Anna (Mrs. William) Befort of rural Mazeppa, Minn.; Josephine (Mrs. John) Rach of Osceola, Wis.; Mary Kate (Mrs. John) Gerhard of rural Charles City, Ia.; and Agnes (Mrs. Frederick) Goebel/Gabel of rural Charles City, Ia.

Nicholas' family first settled near Sheldon, NY, attending St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Sheldon. Later Nicolas and son-in-laws (Peter Thomas, Nicolas Zorn & William Befort) removed to Fond du Lac, Calumet, Manitowoc counties in Wisconsin where they obtained land to farm, with the women following shortly afterwards.

Nichoals died in rural Mazeppa at the home of his daughter, Anna Befort, whom he was visiting at the time. Not sure on the reasoning behind why he was buried in Minnesota and not transported back to Wisconsin, other than that none of his daughters were living in Fond du Lac county at the time of his death - his wife, Marie Katherine was buried in Our Lady of Angels cemetery, Armstrong, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Her exact death date is unknown (possibly 1870) and grave is possibly unmarked.
