Maurine Carr Baird, 80, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2004 at the Brigham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on April 5, 1924 in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of David Carr and Maurine Fox Seaman. She married William Hegsted Shurtleff on April 3, 1943 in Kearney, Nebraska. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They were later divorced. Maurine married Don Johnson Baird on August 20, 1973 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1995. Maurine was a Registered Nurse, and worked in several hospitals and nursing homes. She especially loved working with the Indian children at the Intermountain Indian School. Maurine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings, especially in music. She loved and was a gifted care taker of animals. Maurine was a pilot and member of the Civil Air Patrol. Surviving is one brother, David Bruce (Dorothy) Carr, Farmington; her children, Mary Lou (Carlos) Heslop, Plain City; Joseph L. (Patricia) Shurtleff, Fayetteville, NC; David A. (Rollane) Shurtleff, Uintah; Jeanie (Lane) Maw, Plain City; William J. (Janet) Shurtleff, Washington Terrace; Richard O. (Young) Jones, Tacoma, WA; five step children, D. Wallace Baird; J. Michael Baird; F. Dee Baird; Margaret Tomany; Mary Beth Pollock and many grandchildren and great grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Victor, two grandsons, Robert W. Heslop and Danny Baird. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral chapel. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
