Married Jim Tharp August 5, 1956.He preceded her in death in 1985.
Survivors include children Cynthia Simmons and Grant, Douglas and Kate Tharp; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
She also was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Tommy Thompson, and two cousins she considered her brothers, Dudley and Mike Grey.
She earned a degree from Purdue University.
Her first teaching job was home economics at Scecina High School in Indianapolis, IN. Over of twelve years, the family lived in Indianapolis, Elk Grove IL, Ingomar PA, Auburn MA, Trumbauersville PA, Glenn Ellyn IL, and back to Darlington in 1976.
After earning her master’s she became a high school counselor at North Vermillion High School in Cayuga IN, then for North Montgomery Middle Schools and finally for Northridge Middle School which she retired from.
She was a pioneer in starting a home business, Barn Loft Antiques, and it was not uncommon for her to go “antiquing” on a Saturday afternoon.
She had also worked part time at Cabbages and Kings antique store in Crawfordsville IN after retirement.
Her hobbies included knitting, crochet, weaving, making clothes for her children, making pottery, dried flower arrangements, and gardening that included growing gourds and dried flowers.
Graveside service 11am Friday, July 17 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington, IN.
