Paul was born on June 26, 1932 and passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family on July 9, 2020. He was born in near South Gate in Highland Township, Franklin County, Indiana, where his family homesteaded after coming here from Germany. He was born in a log cabin on a riverbank. While growing up, walking home from school he would hunt for squirrels and rabbits for that evening's dinner. Paul was born to Marie (Rodemaker) and Michael Huber.
Paul married Loretta Mae Kemker on March 26, 1955 at St. Phillips Catholic Church in Indianapolis. They were married for fifty-six years, until her death in 2011. Paul met Loretta when he came to live with his brother Walter in Connersville, Indiana, in the late 1940s. Loretta Lived next door.
Paul and Loretta had four children: Paul Jr. (Marsha), Marilyn, David, and Edward (Becky); five grandchildren: Melinda, Rainy, Mitchell, Savannah, and Kevin; and twelve great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Paul had eight siblings: Walter, Frank, Mike, Mary, Helen, Rose, and Violet; who all preceded him in death, as well as Carl and Annie who survive him. Walter was his mentor who helped guide him in his younger years. He also had numerous nieces and nephews he loved and adored. Paul served in the military for a short time in 1951-1952 until his honorable discharge from the Army to care for his siblings after his father’s death. During that time, he worked for Allison Gas Turbine (GM) in Indianapolis, until his retirement in 1988; a total of thirty-eight years. He was a proud member of UAW Local 933 serving the membership in numerous ways.
Cadillacs and country music were his passions. He owned over twenty Cadillacs over the years, starting in the ‘50s. He loved travelling far and near to see a favorite artist. The Grand Ole Opry, Bill Monroe Park, Nashville, Indiana Opry, and Milton School House were some of his favorite venues. Solid Country Gold music and Bluegrass were in his veins. He also enjoyed numerous activities: bowling with his Union brothers, fishing, boating, woodworking, hunting, camping, working on cars, and RVing. Paul and Loretta loved to travel, always looking for the next adventure. He loved to be on the go, and he especially loved to drive. Later, he caught the gambling bug. Belterra Casino was his home away from home until his health issues sidelined him.
Paul was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. His family was his world. He was always ready to help, and never met a stranger. He will be missed and loved by all who knew him.
