He was married, first, to Josephine Grisoni and following her death was married at Stuttgart on March 19, 1840 to Prinzessin Marie Friederike Charlotte von Württemberg, daughter of Wilhelm I, King of Württemberg and his wife, Grand Duchess Catharine Pavlovna of Russia. He had no children by either wife.
