The deceased was born in Statsrode Denmark, August 9, 1856 and was 70 years, 1 month and 18 days of age at the time of his death. He came to America in 1885 and settled at Emmettsburg where he stayed for about two years and then went to Storm Lake where he lived for four years. On March 21, 1891 he was married to Miss Katrina Nelsen in Pocahontas county. They began housekeeping on a farm 3 miles south of Pomeroy which he had previously purchased and where they lived for eleven years.
They moved to a farm about seven miles north of Pomeroy and lived there about seven years and then moved to Newell where they have made their home for the past eighteen years. He had been a member of the. Danish Lutheran church since early childhood and was one of Newell's most estimable citizens. One son was born to them, Stanley, who is living at home. They raised two other boys, one being James C. Johnson, of Pomeroy. Besides the devoted wife and' son, he leaves five sisters and three brothers, all living in Denmark and three nephews: Nels P. Andersen of Thorton, Einar Andersen of Dell Rapids, S. D., and Magnus Anderson of Oklahoma. Funeral services were held at the home in west Newell yesterday afternoon at two o'clock and at the Danish Lutheran Church at 2:30 o'clock and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Hakon Jorgensen. Interment was made in the Newell cemetery. The pall bearers were: Christ Louritsen of Albert City, M. Sorensen, Andrew X. Petersen, Harry Hunter, M. F. Rodda and Lewis Thompsen, all old friends or neighbors of the deceased.
