Last rites for Charles Preston Austin were held Dec. 26 at the Oliver Funeral Home with the Rev. W.P. Bailey officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Earl Chandler, Walker Durham, J.E. Bounds, Noel Garrett, Robert Stockton & W.S. Oliver. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Preston, who was born in Choctow County on May 1, 1881, passed away on Dec. 24th at the Mississippi State Hospital in Jackson. He was a member of the Durant Methodist Church & a former Member of Durant Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frank Moore, Jackson; 4 sons, Alva Austin, Victor Austin, Earl Austin and Charles P. Austin, Jr. all of San Diego Calif; 2 sisters, Mrs. P.Y. Smith of Winona, and Mrs. Lula Kelher of Mobile; a brother, E.H. Austin, Winona; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
