Kimberly Lynn Pitts, 37 yrs old of Palmer Alaska died January 24, 2006 at her home of a pulmonary embolism.
Kim was born January 9, 1969 in Topeka, Kansas the oldest daughter of Ralph and Mary Jane (Reppart) Pitts. The family moved to White City Kansas in 1979 where Kim attended school and graduated with the class of 1987.
She received her BS degree in Dental Hygiene from Wichita State University. Kim joined the Army reserves, was later commisioned as a lieutenant, and proudly served her country from 1993 until August 2005 when she joined the United States Public Health Service and moved to Alaska. She was employed as a dental hygienist at South Central Foundation and the Alaska Native Medical Center.
Kim had served as a dedicated dental hygienist in the Army reserves in Germany and Killeen, Texas as well as spending a year in Afghanistan.
While in Afghanistan, she had spearheaded a school supply drive for underpriviledged children in that area, enlisting her local friends and neighbors to assist her. She also organized activities for fellow troop members while in Afghanistan.
She had also worked as a dental hygienist for dentists in Topeka, Manhattan and Junction City Kansas.
Kim was a loving and thoughtful daughter, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. She particularly loved to be the doting aunt to her nieces and nephew.
Kim was amazing in her ability to build life long friendships from a five minute conversation. Her continuous smile, laughter, energy and love of life will be greatly missed by her family and the multitude of friends she had made throughout her life.
Kim was proceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane Pitts on June 30, 2003.
Survivors include her father Ralph Pitts of White City Kansas; two brothers, Shawn Pitts and his wife Elissa of Fort Collins Colorado and J.J. Pitts and his wife Jamie of Nortonville, Kansas; a sister Jayme Urban and her husband John of Salina, Kansas; her Godparents Steve and Donna Kristek of Lincolnville, Kansas; neices and nephew Baylee, Meagan and Jenna Pitts of Nortonville, Jarrett and Macy Pitts of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Kate Urban of Salina. Aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
A memorial service was held in Alaska on January 28, 2006,
A memorial service was also held on Friday February 3, 2006 at the White City United Methodist Church.
Visition was held Thursday February 2nd, 2006 at the Penwell-Gabel Herington Chapel.
She was my cousin and was a beautiful, compassionate and fun loving woman. She is missed so much by her family and friends.
