Jane C. Benjamin, 83, of Peoria passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at her residence.

She was born on Feb. 28, 1927, in Macomb, Ill., to Augustus F. and Iva Randolph Cover. She married Kenneth E. Benjamin on June 1, 1947, in Toulon. He passed away in January 1997 in Peoria.

She also was preceded in death by one son, James C. Benjamin, and one sister, Patricia Duros.

Jane is survived by one daughter, Ann Benjamin of Gilbert, S.C.; and daughter-in-law, Cathy Benjamin of Brookfield, Wis.

She was a University of Illinois graduate, having majored in chemistry.

Following college she worked at the Northern Regional Research Laboratory.

Jane was a member of First Federated Church, serving in many leadership positions including vice moderator, chairman of pastoral search committee, finance committee and deaconess. She also was on the board of Peoria Forest Park Foundation. She was very active for more than 50 years in the Service League of Methodist Medical Center, serving as president, shop chairman and bookkeeper in the gift shop. Most recently she was the chairman of the Service League flower shop. She helped establish Wildlife Prairie Park Shops and served as president and treasurer for several years. She also served as Wildlife Prairie Park business manager from 1986-1991.

Cremation rites have been accorded.
