Robert Richie, Banker, And Helen Adams Wed

Miss Helen Adams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold S. Adams, Shamokin, became the bride of Robert Richie, son of J.W. Richie, Overlook, Saturday in a ceremony performed in First Methodist Church, Tyrone. Dr. J.E.A. Bucke, former Sunbury District Superintendent of the Methodist Church, officiated. Attorney and Mrs. Frank S. Moser attended the couple.

The bride graduated from Shamokin High School and has been employed at the Shamokin telephone exchange. Her husband graduated from Shamokin High School and served four years with the armed forced during the late war. He is assistant treasurer of Guarantee Trust and Safe Deposit Company there.

The newlyweds will reside in Overlook.

Robert W. Richie, 95, Selinsgrove

SELINSGROVE - Robert W. Richie, 95, of 119 Route 204, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, at the United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz.

He was born Nov. 25, 1910, at RR2 Shamokin, a son of the late J. Wesley and Bertha (Gass) Richie. He and the former Helen I. Adams were married June 11, 1949.

He was a 1928 graduate of Shamokin High School.

Mr. Richie served in the Army in the South Pacific for 4 1/2 years during World War II.

He retired as a vice president from Guarantee Trust and Safe Deposit Bank, Shamokin, which later became Northern Central Bank. He served on the bank's board of directors.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Shamokin, and a former member of Lincoln Street United Methodist Church, Shamokin, where he served on the administrative board and sang in the choir for more than 50 years.

He was a member and former secretary-treasurer of the Shamokin Kiwanis Club. He formerly served on the Ralpho Township school board and the Elysburg library board of directors. He was treasurer of the Shamokin Hospital Auxiliary's Selinsgrove Corner Shop.

He loved singing, playing the piano and gardening and was an avid tennis player and fan.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of more than 57 years, are two sons and daughters-in-law, John R. and Lois Richie of Lititz and William A. and Betsy Richie of Elysburg; five grandchildren, Jennifer Martin and David, Chris, Andrew and Ashley Richie; and one great-grandchild, Alexa Martin.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William, and three sisters, Elva Kinsley, Mildred Erdman and Marjorie Marquette.

There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, 102 E. Sunbury St., Shamokin, by the Rev. Tim Reichard.

Private burial will take place at a later date in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations to Shamokin Area Community Hospital, 4200 Hospital Road, Coal Township, PA 17866.

Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
