SARAH REBA HANDWERK lived a long and productive 100 years. Born April 5, 1920, in Era, Texas, she died peacefully June 8, 2020. Reba was a woman ahead of her times. She was a role model for all setting an example for women as successful and productive leaders. She was a loving and kind person who willingly gave of herself to make the community a better place to live. She volunteered with the Amelia Emergency Squad Auxiliary, Amelia County Garden Club, and the James L. Hamner Public Library. Reba was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph B. Handwerk, and by her parents Benedict and Sarah E. Alexander and also by her sisters Vera Leola Alexander, Marie Bundy, Margaret Gibson, and Helen Roberson, and brothers Rexford, Gordon, Jacquelin, Kenneth, John, and Edwin Alexander. Reba is survived by her children Kendal Handwerk of Richmond, Karen Grizzard of Newport News, Kevin Handwerk of Amelia, Coleen McKeag of Manassas, and Pamela Handwerk of Hampton and her sister-in-law, Jane Alexander of Valley View, along with several generations of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their families. Her ashes will be interred at the Amelia Veteran’s Cemetery CR1 row 10 site 4 at the Amelia VA Cemetery, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia, VA 23002. No formal visitation is planned, and current conditions preclude the family holding a service at this time. Visiting hours for friends and family are after 4:30 P.M. at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Amelia Emergency Squad at 8930 Otterburn Rd, Amelia Court House, VA 23002.
