Deborah Kay Hays was born on August 18, 1957 in Altus, Oklahoma to Roger and Juanita (White) Hays. She grew up in Olustee, Oklahoma and graduated from high school in 1975. She married Joel Sanders in Vernon, Texas on June 13, 1986. Kay worked as a seamstress most of her life and owned the Turkey Creek Quilt Shop in Olustee.
Her father, Roger Hays, stepfather, D.E. Bates, and a brother, David Hays, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Joel, of the home; mother, Juanita Bates; two stepdaughters, Crystal Williams and husband, Kyle, and Tiffany Sanders-Cooksey; step-grandchildren, Kristen Monday and fiancé, Logan Roman, McKynzi Forster and Gabe Forster; great grandchildren, Deagan and Oaklyn Richardson and Raelyn Roman; mother-in-law, Glenda Sanders; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
