It is with profound sadness that the family of Mark M. Peters announces his peaceful passing on June 14, 2020 at the age of 63 years.

Mark was born to Major Jerry Peters and Virginia (Barnett) Peters on October 3, 1956 in Fort Belvoir, VA. He graduated from Pierce City High School in 1974 and went on to pursue a career in the United States Army, serving from December 7, 1983 until November 25, 1986. He remained in the Army Reserves until his honorable discharge on December 6, 1989. Mark then returned to academic life completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and received his Bachelor of Arts in 1990. He returned to Missouri to earn his Doctorate in Law from the University of Missouri in 1994 and became a member of the Missouri Bar in 1995. He practiced law in downtown Pierce City where he also proudly served as Mayor from 2002-2006.

Mark was united in marriage to Kenna Lucile Turley on April 21, 2006 in Eureka Springs, AR. She survives. Additionally, Mark leaves three daughters, McKelvie Woodward and husband Zach, Nicole Whisman and husband Jason and Mattie Gilmore and fiancé Kaden; his mother, Virginia Peters; one brother, Eric Peters and wife Ryna; two sisters, Valerie Sommer and husband Art and Victoria Howerton and husband Phil; five grandchildren, Jensen Murphy, Caroline Carney, Morrison Carney, Annie Woodward and Riley Whisman, who is due to be welcomed to this world in August; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Peters.

Graveside services and military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2020 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett. Reverend Aaron Weibel will be officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
