A Wells County resident for most of her life, Nancy Harshman Gartner, 92, passed away at 1 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2007, at Chalet Village, Berne. Born on Jan. 2, 1915, in Wells County, she was a daughter of Wesley and Naomi (Swallows) Swartz. Her marriage on Nov. 28, 1931, in Petroleum was to Ralph Harshman, who preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1970.

She was a homemaker and a former member of Nottingham Community Church. She had worked at Estey Piano Company for 15 years and at Wells Community Hospital for seven years. She also volunteered at the Bargain Hut for several years.

Survivors include children Moretta Eads of Berne, June Kerns of Bluffton, LeRoy Harshman of Pennville, Wilma Baumgartner and Ralph Deewayne Harshman, both of Fort Wayne, Brenda Harshman of Hamilton, Wash., David Harshman of Rochester and Paul Harshman of Point Isabelle, Ind.; 20 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Services were entrusted to Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home of Bluffton, Indiana.
