Jon A. Smith, age 79, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Jon Allen Smith was born on August 20, 1940, to parents Donald and Olena (Miller) Smith in Carroll, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Christian Church in Sac City. He grew up and went to school in Sac City and graduated with Sac City High School’s Class of 1958. After graduating, Jon entered the United States Navy and worked as an electronics technician. He served his nation for 20 years, retiring from the Navy in 1977.

On January 6, 1962, Jon married LaVonne Pingel. This union was blessed with two children, Brian and Krystal. Over the years as Jon remained in the Navy, the four of them lived in many places including Virginia, South Carolina, California, the Philippines, and New Mexico. They moved back to Iowa after LaVonne was diagnosed with cancer. She sadly passed away on June 9, 1992.

Jon had a love for collecting coins. He had quite an extensive collection but that didn’t keep him from wanting to own any new or unusual coin he came across...this was certainly a passion of his. He also enjoyed motorcycle riding, especially in his younger days with his son, Brian.

On September 11, 1993, Jon married LuAnn Huster. This union grew his family by a lot. Together they lived in Aurelia before moving back to Sac City. Jon was a lifelong member of Kiwanis where he served as a past president. This was something he held dear to his heart. He was a very giving man and donated generously to many organizations and charities throughout his life. Jon always kept up with current events and politics which always made for great conversation of course.

Something that was very important to Jon was his faith. He attended Summit Evangelical Free Church in Alta with LuAnn and he said he knew when he walked through the doors of the church that he was in the right place. His faith grew even stronger and he spoke freely of his relationship with the Lord. Jon lived a good life and one filled with faith. Rest assured he is living in Eternity in the comfort of God’s arms.

Jon leaves behind his children, Brian (Tari), and daughter, Krystal (Joe); stepchildren, Val (Jeff), Rusty (Faye), Roger (Sandi), and Tim (Minnie); grandchildren/great-grandchildren: Jason (Allison); Charlotte (Troy); Emily; Kyle (Moe); Kayla (Vincent)-Connor, Lillian, Magnus and Fenrir; Joshua; Dallas (Eric)-Grey and Samantha; Micheala (Dave)-Parker, Owen and Oliver; Serianna and special friend, Tory; Jace; Tom (Jami)-Emersyn; Jennifer (Jay)-Wyatt and Noah; Megan (Taylor)-Matix and Hayes; and Shelby (Jonathon); sister, Barb (Lou) and son, Eric; many extended family members and friends.

Jon was preceded in death by his first wife, LaVonne Smith (1992), second wife, LuAnn Smith (2017), parents, Donald and Olena Smith; and brother, Larry Smith.
