Lu Ann Rae Stanfield was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1935, at McCrary-Rost Hospital in Lake City, IA to Paul Raymond and Augusta Kathryn (Laumbach) Stanfield. She grew up near Lake City where she graduated from High School in 1954.

On February 20, 1955, Lu Ann was united in marriage to Walt Huster at the Lake City Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with four children: Valorie, Rusty, Roger, and Timothy. They made their home on the Huster family farm southeast of Sac City. She loved the farm, her family and her many friends, they were all very important to her. After 33 years of marriage Lu Ann and Walter were divorced. Lu Ann moved to Sac City.

Lu Ann’s strong faith in God helped her through the tough times. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Sac City, served as an elder and on several committees. She had a deep commitment to Chi Rho and the CYF programs. She treasured her church family.

Lu Ann was very proud of her children, watching them grow up, get married and become good parents. She felt blessed to have Jeff, Faye, Minnie and Sandi in her life. Her grandchildren were all so special to her, each in their own way. The title Grandma Lu Ann and Grandma Luie were ones she wore proudly. She liked to roller skate, and really liked to play golf, she said it was very relaxing and she always had so much fun. She also enjoyed playing the piano and organ and sharing her talents with her church family. Other hobbies included reading, playing bridge, playing games and working. At a time when film was what we used, Lu Ann would have her camera with her at all times, catching many special memories.

On September 11, 1993, Lu Ann was united in marriage to Jon Smith at the First Christian Church in Sac City. Jon’s children, Brian and Krystal, completed her family. Jon and Lu Ann made their home in Aurelia, IA, and later moved back to Sac City. They enjoyed traveling, playing golf and being with family and friends.

Lu Ann was preceded in death by her sister Judy McCrea, mother Augusta, father Paul and step-mother Karolyn.
