Antonio Leonor Fuentes, 87, passed away at 11:17am on Friday, June 5, 2020 at Banner Desert Medical Center on Dobson Rd in Mesa, Arizona. Antonio (Tony) was born on April 21, 1933 in Mambusao, Capiz in the Philippines. The youngest of six children to Placido Fuentes & Angustia Leonor Fuentes.
He graduated in the Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and served as a Lieutenant in the Philippine Army. He married his love Venus Azaula Mopera on June 16, 1966 (deceased).
They had four children. The first three in the Philippines and the youngest in the United States. The first born, Adonis Mopera Fuentes married to Rosemary Rawlins blessed Antonio with 3 grandchildren; Anthony James, Athena Rose & Nathan Christopher . The second born is Alex Mopera Fuentes. The third is Vanessa Fuentes Wu, married to William Wu. The youngest is VeAnn Fuentes Hamilton, married to David Hamilton.
Tony was a proud citizen of both the Philippines and the United States. He moved to the US in the early 1970’s first. He settled in Chicago, Illinois where Venus and the first three children joined him a few years later. They then resettled in San Diego, California where his youngest child was born. The family made their final family move to Mesa, Arizona. Tony was a strong, independent man who greatly loved his large expansive family. His generosity made it possible for multiple family members from his and his wife to eventually make the US their home as well. “The more the family the better.” He made quick fast friends during his work and at personal events with his gregarious personality. He loved to dance and teach anyone to dance. He taught himself to play the violin by ear and even tried to sing at times. Luckily for everyone, he forwarded that talent for Venus to shine. He enjoyed telling grand & humorous stories. In addition, his love of travel allowed him to visit numerous areas of the US with his family and in the latter years to Europe & Asia with Venus.
Venus passed on July 18, 2012. On Tony’s funeral, Jun 16, 2020, they will celebrate their 54th Wedding Anniversary, dancing together again.
Burial: Tuesday, June 16, 2020, 11:30AM, at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1562 E Baseline Rd, Mesa, AZ 85204.
