Sarah Ruth King Goodman, 92, of Chattanooga, TN, passed from this life on June 15, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney M. Goodman, parents, Oscar and Lillie King, and four older siblings. Ruth graduated from Red Bank High School in 1948.
She was a hard worker, entering the work force at the age of 16 while still in high school. She had a long career beginning as a bookkeeper and rising to the position of manager for F. W. Woolworth's prior to retiring in 1991. Her busy, active, and opinionated personality served her well. Ruth valued God, her family, her friends, and a clean kitchen. She loved quilting, baking, her friends, babies, and sunny days. No one ever looked better in a polyester suit and heels. Her memory remains forever as a legacy in the hearts of those who knew her. Sarah Ruth's deep Christian faith was nurtured by the North Chattanooga Church of God (now The Ministry Center) from the 1940's to 2021. As Christ's faithful child, we believe her to be held in eternity by love. One of her most frequent reminders was: "God is still on His throne."
Ruth is survived by her children, Beverly McCormick, Anita (Bob) Hawfield, and Greg (Gretchen) Goodman, six grandchildren, Nicholas McCormick, Sarah (Joey) McBeth, Erin (Dakota) Ellis, Heather (Steven) Anderson, Michelle Hawfield, and Zach Goodman, as well as nine great-grandchildren, Lucy, Hazel, Jack, Luke, Sallie, Carter, Pax, Felix, and Sophie and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 12:00pm to 2:30pm followed by a memorial service at 2:30 with Pastor Jimmy Talley officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
