Richard A. Newton, 83, of Cary, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2020.

Richard was born in on September 3, 1936; son of the late Maggie Wainwright and Alvin Newton.

Richard grew up in the Methodist Orphanage in Raleigh. Upon graduating high school, Richard served in the Army. After the Army, he was an employee of Eastern Airlines and the City of Raleigh for many years. Throughout his life he had a great love for antiques and clocks.

Richard is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons: Al and wife, Julie of Raleigh and Galen and wife Cassandra, of Raleigh; one grandson: Andrew Newton; four granddaughters: Kiersten, Gabrielle, Grace and Gianna; brother: Curtis R. Elks and wife Ann, of Grifton, NC; three nieces: Kim Carper and husband Mike, of Shelby, NC, Lori Hart and husband Ray, of Grifton, NC, and Lisa Pulaski and husband Brian, of Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Kirk B. Newton in 2017; sisters: Hazel N. Smith in 2018 and Barbara F. Guzek in 2018.

A private funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Mitchell Funeral Home. Due to present gathering restrictions, live streaming of the service will begin at 2 pm on the Facebook Page of Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park so that all can be present in spirit with the family. Graveside services will follow at 3 pm - if anyone would like to attend the brief outside service and greet the family afterwards. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Methodist Orphanage Alumni Association - 1520 Lead Mine Road #204 - Raleigh, NC 27615.
