Their family name was recorded with many variations over time.

His place of birth is described in family lore as "Berserova, Colamaka, Ukraine". This is possibly a town or parish in the area of Kolomea; perhaps Bania Berezowska (now Banya-Bereziv), Berezow Nizny (now Nyzhnii Bereziv) or Berezow Wyzny (Vyzhnii Bereziv). All of these have a continued presence in the area of the modern city of Kolomyia, Ivano-Frankivska, Ukraine (48.530556, 25.040278)

Their departure for North America and Canada was from Genoa, Italy, aboard the Trojan Prince, on April 4, 1898, arriving in New York on the 24th, with a destination of Winnipeg, MB. The couple declared they were intending to join Dmytro's brother-in-law. The couple's ages were reported as 29 (Dmytro) and 21 (Wasylena).

The manifest gives us their last residence as having been the village of Berezow in Galicia; the most probable modern reference: Berezivka, Donetska, Ukraine (48.345712, 37.4925486). Of further interest, that document tells us they declared as being "Russian Poles" and they were part of a large cohort from the same town making their way to Manitoba and other destinations in Canada and the USA.

The family homestead in 1906 is recorded as being located on a parcel of land in section 12-17-2-E1, (Dominion Land Survey coordinates), near modern coordinates 50.440505,-97.194900.

He was a resident of the Selkirk Mental Hospital in 1916, and recorded as a patient in the similar facility in Brandon in both the 1921 and 1926 censuses.

MB Death Registration #1942,024008 as "Dymetro Negrycz"; estimated age at death: 64 years (Brandon); Date of Birth: 1878

Noting that the census record in 1926 and his death registration both underestimate his age as recorded in multiple earlier sources
