Brookhaven Man Celebrates 100th Birthday in Fla.
After spending an active and varied life in the local area of Suffolk County , Robert Eugene Albin, native of Brookhaven, having been born March 28, 1S67 on Beaver Dam Road, will be celebrating his 100th birthday with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Carlile, in Orlando, Fla. The son of Robert Albin and Lucinda Overton Albin, who owned the general store in Brookhaven, Mr. Albin began his business career learning the jewelry business in Robinson's jewelry Store in Sayville, where he later opened his own store but which he eventually had to sell to Herbert Terry of Center Moriches because of serious illness. A visit to Center Moriches to an uncle and aunt, Captain and Mrs. George Howell, where his health improved, made him decide to open a livery stable so he could work in the open with horses. But he finally returned to his original choice of occupation by opening a jewelry store on Main Street, locale of the present South Bay Sales. In all this time, Mr. Albin had been building up his private life, marrying Miss Nellie May Cesman in 1887 and raising four children, Robert, Vernie, Everett and Arnetta, the present Mrs. Carlile. He and Mrs. Albin used to spend their Winters in Florida, where they formed the New York Club. Mrs. Albin died several years ago, and Mr. Albin has made Orlando his permanent home for the last 20 years. He has two grandchildren, Lois Carlile Downs and an adopted grandson, Everett (Bim) Albin, three great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
