Oliver Perry Evans, Class of 1865, New Market Cadet. Genealogy: Born- June 2, 1842 near Jackson Court House, West Virginia; Father- Ephraim Sayre Evans; Mother- Ruami Wright. Paternal grandparents- Jonathan Evans and Sarah Fawcett; Maternal grandparents- Benjamin Wright and Sarah Casto. Married- in 1876, Nora M. Ryan, daughter of James Talbot Ryan; they had 4 children- Perry, Beatrice, Julia, and Nora. VMI Record: Matriculated on January 15, 1862, from Jackson Court House, WVA; 2nd Cadet Sergeant, Company B; color bearer at the Battle of New Market. Career: After the Civil War he studied law at Washington College (now Washington & Lee University); in 1868 moved to San Francisco to practice law; distinguished career as lawyer, law professor, and judge. Died- May 15, 1911 in Berkeley, California.
