LYON MOUNTAIN-Carl J. Bingel, 89, of Standish Road, passed away Monday, July 9, 2007, at CVPH Medical Cener in Plattsburgh. He was born in Lyon Mountain on March 14, 1818, son of the late John and Rose (Musaic) Bingel.
Carl was a lifelong resident of Lyon Mountain. He was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain. Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. He was a charter member of the Sorrell Woodward American Legion in Lyon Mountain and a 50-year member of the Dannemora Knights of Columbus, where he was a Third Degree Knight. Carl was employed by Rebublic Steel for 33 years, until the mines closed in 1967. He worked at Marriott Food Service at SUNY Plattsburgh and later was a contract mail carries in Lyon Mountain, Standhis and Merrill until his retirement. Carl was an avid fisherman, trapper and hunter.
Carl is survived by three children, Anita Scott and her husband, Bob, of Roswell, Ga., William Bingel and his wife, Karen, of Plattsburgh, Michael Bingel of Plattsburgh; three grandchildren, Thad Bingel and his wife, Kelly, of Washington, D.C., Amanda Bingel of Troy, Curtis Bingel of Amsterdam; two great grandchildren, John Riley Bingel and Elizabeth Hogan Bingel; a brother, Walter Bingel of Lyon Mountain; a sister, Anna Pageau of Lyon Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.
Carl was predeceased by his wife, Frances Bingel, on Oct. 16, 1998; twon brothers, Anthony Bingel and John Bingel; and a sister, Mary Bingel.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 11, 2007, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St., Plattsburgh. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 12, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Lyon Mountain. Military homors will be provided by the Lyon Mountain American Legion.
