Civil War veteran. He went out from North Adams as a drummer in the regimental band in the 60's and saw many battles. He served on the police force and then worked for the Hunter Machine Company for 30 years.
He was a mason and a member of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, the former Sylvia Ann Patterson, his son Henry George Rand of New York, and a daughter, Alice Tyler of Shelburne Falls.
