Daughter of Chester Arthur Heinzelman and Cornelia Sattler; wife of Elmer William Kosfeld and Henry Neill

Edith "Edie," "Deedee" Kosfeld Neill, nee Heinzelman, 94, died in her sleep on July 18, 2007, in Boerne, Texas. She had borne the loss of sight due to macular degeneration in her 80s followed by general infirmity in her final two years.

As a high school student, Edie (as she was then called) competed with her cousin, the late Mildred (Johnson) Rogers, for top scholastic honors. She became salutatorian and Mildred valedictorian. After graduating from Belleville Township High School, she attended the University of Illinois where she earned a Masters Degree in journalism.

Edith was twice widowed. Her first husband, Elmer Wilhelm Kosfeld of St. Louis, Mo., died suddenly at age 48 in 1961, while away on business for Ralston Purina Company from their home in Belleville, Ill. Her second husband, Henry Neill of Pittsburgh, Pa., died of heart failure in the early 1980s following their retirement from Pittsburgh and Alcoa Aluminum Co., and their establishment of residence in Fredericksburg, Texas. They had lived in Tubac, Arizona for several years before moving to Fredericksburg in 1978. Edith had later residences in Fair Oaks Ranch, San Antonio and Boerne, Texas.

She is survived by daughters, Phoebe Kosfeld Bickhaus and Connie Kosfeld King and their five children, Mary King (Dennis) Kruse of Boerne, Texas, Stephanie King (Kyle) Cheatham of Georgetown, Texas, Fairel Bickhaus (Tom) Rank of Sugar Grove, Ill., Brent Bickhaus of Niles, Ill., and Wynne Bickhaus (Will) Lacey of Oak Park, Ill.; 12 great-grandchildren, Emma, Hannah and Daniel Kruse, Sarah and Hope Cheatham, Nolan and Hagan Rank, Jacqueline, Brooke and Mackenzie Bickhaus, and Cooper and Pearl Lacey; and nieces, Beverly Heinzelman and Jan Heinzelman (Craig) Behm.

She will be remembered as a woman with great intelligence, wit, style and entertaining skills. A grandmother who helped make memories and set high standards for those she loved.
