John married Mary Hensel Pfeifer, in 1933 in Lincoln Valley, North Dakota and became a step Dad to her eight children. Jacob Jr, Mathilda, Marie Magdaline, Daniel, Maria, Hilbert, Gottlieb and Gerhardt Pfeifer.

Together they raised 20 children.

John passed away on Friday July 20, 1956 in Anamoose, McHenry Co, North Dakota.
