Leona Peterson Bird, 93, passed away on June 1, 2012 (on her 75th wedding anniversary) at the skilled nursing facility in Montpelier, Idaho.

She was born on October 27, 1918 in St. Charles, Idaho to Charles A. and Delta Johnston Person. She married Wen H. Bird in the Salt Lake Temple on June 1, 1937 and lived in Paris all hot her life.

Leona was an avid "Float Maker" making many large floats for the Paris and Montpelier parades. One of her best memories was working on a Bear Lake Stake float for the Salt Lake City "Days of 47" parade.

Leona was the secretary of the fair board for 15 years, secretary for several ditch companies, and had a love for the Primary organization in which she served faithfully. She was a drama director for the ward and stake and owned Leona's Craft & Floral shop for many years in Paris.

Leona is survived by her children, Colleen (Delmoine) Hansen, Charleen (Dwindle) Allred, and Kenneth Ween (Gloria) Bird. She has six grand children, Bret (Cindy) Hansen, Lynne (Leon) Pope, Steven (Carol) Allred, Lori Anne Allred, Tara (Flint) Parker and Debra (Austin) Harwood. She has 21 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Leona was the only girl with six brothers: Edward Peterson of Washington, Vernon Peterson of Utah, and Alfred, Loren, Weldon, and Don Peterson (all deceased).

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Paris LDS Chapel in Paris. Friends may call prior to services from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Paris Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Laura Romrell and the staff at the Bear Lake Manor for taking such good care of her for five years and also the staff at the BLMH Skilled Nursing Facility for the past three years. A special thanks to Dr. Campbell.
