She was a proud and accomplished mother, wife and friend to anyone that needed help within the reach of her life. She was a graduate of Martinsville High School, class of 1967. She would go on to work for several companies; among them RCA, Ben Franklin stores, and NSWC Crane where she headed the reception desk at Navy Gateway Inn and suites until her retirement in 2013. She was happily married twice; to David M. Fouts Sr. and Robert G. Coleman, having two sons by them.
Karen was Worthy Matron of the Bloomfield Chapter of the Eastern Star 1987-1988, and continued to be a proud member of the organization until her passing. In addition, she dedicated much time and aid to the Masonic Lodge of Bloomfield as well as the Odd-Fellows and Job’s Daughters organizations.
She is survived by two sons, one daughter-in-law; her father, Charles Spoon; and countless family and close friends who will never forget her fathomless kindness, her irrepressible wit, her undying loyalty to all who deserved it, and her fiery determination in the face of any challenge small or great.
Karen requested to her sons, several years ago, that her tombstone bare the inscription, “Her work is finally done.” Hoping that she and the Almighty God will forgive the editing to those who loved her with all our hearts, it will instead read, “Her earthly works are done, but the love she built will live forever.” Goodbye for now, Dear Karen. The Lord Bless and keep you until we all meet again at the Blessed feasting table of Heaven. With love from Robert James, David, Courtney and all of us.
