Joyce Perkerson Poole, 82, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Brandon Wilde. Joyce was born in April of 1936 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of John Alex Perkerson and Elizabeth Jenkins Perkerson. She attended grammar and high school in Altanta. She was on the staff of the Murphy High School newspaper "Eagle", a member of Quill and Scroll, Beta Club, National Honor Society, and was voted "Most Likely to Succeed" in her senior year Joyce met Thomas Hugh Poole, Jr. in high school and they were married in Atlanta on June 4, 1955, Tom attended Emory University School of Dentistry, graduating in 1959 and receiving the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. He entered into the United States Navy and was assigned as a dental officer to the United States Marine Corps. While in military service, Tom and Joyce lived in Jacksonville, NC. Upon fulfilling his military service, they returned to Altanta, where Tom was in private practice, followed by employment as a hospital staff dentist with the Veterans Administration in Augusta Maine, Johnson City Tennessee, and Augusta Georgia. Joyce attended college at Georgia State University in Atlanta and East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. While in Atlanta, she was employed by Georgia Telco Credit Union. Joyce had a special interest in family history, spending many years in genealogical research. She served as Registrar for the College Hill Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and The Rev. Pierre Robert Chapter, National Society Daughters of Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century. In 2005, she published a book entitled "A Heard Family Record-Based History, The Five Generations in America". Many articles by Joyce about family history were published in historical society publications and in the "Magazine of Virginia Genealogy".

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Alex Perkerson, Jr. She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Thomas Hugh Poole, Jr. DDS. They enjoyed a varied, interesting, and wonderful life together. Joyce was smart, energetic, always cheerful, and ready to help others.

Joyce is also survived by her cousins Eleanor McArthur Hamlett, Ann McArthur Milton, Luther W. McArthur, Jr., Julia Jenkins Motes, Shirley Perkerson Johnston, and Barbara Perkerson Henck. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans. Joyce looked forward to being reunited in Heaven with Tom and all of her relatives and friends, including her German Shepherd dog, Christian.
