Caleb Michael Johnson
1997 - 2020

Caleb Michael Johnson, 22, of Mapleton, Utah, suffered injuries due to a car accident on May 29, 2020, and he succumbed to those injuries on May 30, 2020.

Caleb was born on June 17, 1997, to Michael and Sheri Johnson in Payson, Utah. He was raised in Springville and Mapleton, Utah. He graduated from Maple Mountain High School in 2016, where he played varsity basketball and was a seminary graduate. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Caleb served an honorable mission in Texas Houston South, Spanish-speaking, where he met the love of his life, Marissa Gonzales, to whom he was married only three short weeks. Caleb was an amazing missionary. He was driven to serve the people of Houston, Texas, and share his love, conviction, and testimony of the Plan of Salvation. The people of Houston admired the kind and loving person he was, and he reciprocated the same affection for them.

Even though his mortal journey was only for a brief moment, Caleb truly lived life to the fullest. He was compassionate, kind-hearted, driven, attentive, and a friend to everyone he came into contact with. He loved serving, especially his lifelong friend, Corey Derfler. Even in death, he is still serving other families through organ donation, and through that, Caleb will live on and continue to be a blessing to many other lives.

Growing up, he excelled at everything he chose to pursue. He enjoyed playing basketball, soccer, and producing his own music. He was an active kid and there was nothing he couldn’t do. Being the third oldest child of seven, he was very close with his siblings. He admired each of his brothers and sisters. He was goofy, funny, witty, inclusive, supportive, and an example to them. He spent time with each of his siblings and would hang out with them individually. He had a personal relationship with each of them. He encouraged them to always be their best, and he always led by his example.

Caleb loved to achieve his goals and was driven throughout his life. He did not care about what anyone thought about his music career, he just loved the chase and the thrill that making music brought to him. He was passionate about the music that he wrote straight from his heart. He wanted to help and inspire people through his music. Many knew Caleb by his rap name “CJSleeves”. He loved to perform and you could feel his joy while he was on the stage. He wrote many songs with the purpose of inspiring others, and his words remain an inspiration to us forever. We encourage everyone to look up his music on any music platform. Although many of his songs have inspired us during this time, his song “Kobe” is especially meaningful to us right now. He himself stated that he did not include Kobe’s name in the song, because he wanted it to be applicable to anybody that has lost someone. That foresight will be priceless to his friends and family for the rest of our lives.

He was the absolute best husband to Marissa. He loved her with all of his heart. Even though they did not have much as newlyweds, he wanted her to have everything that she ever wanted. He loved her deeply and everybody around them could see how perfect their love was.

As a son, Caleb was a joy from the very beginning and never disappointed. As a young boy, he always had an infectious smile and laugh. He loved to entertain and was not shy about being the focus of attention. He was a natural at anything he chose to do. As he grew older he would make decisions based on his individual pursuits and his passions. He didn’t do things because others said he should, he did them because he felt they were important and then he did them with all of his heart and energy. He was relentless in his pursuits and excellent at whatever he chose to do. He was mature well beyond his years and once he set a goal he was one of the few that would always keep that goal even when inconvenient. The truly amazing trait was his ability to be so focused and driven while simultaneously giving others the individual time and attention that they needed, and always with that infectious smile. He has no enemies and did not hold a grudge, he made a decision how life should be lived and then went out and did it. He made friends everywhere he went and was admired by everyone he came in contact with. To know Caleb, was to love Caleb. He inspired so many and was such a good example to everyone. He taught us to live in a way that we would be proud of and to live with no regrets. He was such a good brother and son and inspired us to chase our dreams. His smile could always brighten a room and he always brought laughter wherever he went. He never failed to make everyone feel special.

As a friend, Caleb was faithful and fun in every situation. He supported his friends in their endeavors. When a friend found something to be passionate about, Caleb would do anything he could to help them live out their dreams. His friends remember his desire to live life to the fullest. Caleb never hesitated to participate in their numerous adventures. He always added laughter and life to all the times they spent together. He had a unique presence about him and when he started to speak, everyone in the room listened. Caleb was always a joy to be around. His friends cannot remember a time when he was mad or upset. He was a genuine friend to everyone he met. Caleb truly brought light into his friends’ lives.

Caleb is survived by his loving wife, Marissa; parents, Michael and Sheri Johnson; siblings: Zachary (Erin), Jessica, Kylie, Tate, Brooke, and Ali; his niece, Kaybrie; nephew, Dakota; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Chad and Allison Gonzales, and their children: Maddie, Malori, and Parker. He is also survived by his grandparents: Kelly (Jo) Johnson, Angie (Mike) Montague, Laura Atwood; great-grandma, Gwen Johnson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. What a joyous reunion it will be when we get to be with him again.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents: John and Kathleen Bartholomew and Grandpa Lindsay Atwood.
