Lieutenant Commander Allan Walter Murray (Ret) USN died at age 83 on December 26th in Raleigh, N.C.

He was born to the late Walter Scott Murray and Mary Sutherland Murray. He was formerly of Glencoe, Illinois.

Allan is survived by his wife Barbara Traugott Murray, son Eric Murray, daughter Gwen Glenn, and grandchildren Colton, Joseph and Monica Murray. He is also survived by brother Donald Murray, sister Laurie Murray Leigh and several nieces and nephews. Allen is preceded in death by brothers Ken and Ross Murray and sister Elizabeth Murray Zehr. Allan was a 1960 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, serving his country for 26 years, later becoming the Naval Science Instructor with the ROTC program in McDowell County for ten years. Allan was an avid chess player while belonging to the Kiwanis Club, Audubon Society and a was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Society.
