Lucy was given the religious name of Sr Mary Ignatious, DHM, however the order went by their given names. This was due to dangerous conditions where the order served.

Lucy left her home in Dungannon, Oh, arriving in Cleveland,Ohio on September 20, 1859 to join the order of the Daughters of the Heart of Mary.

On May 19, 1860 she was received as a postulant. When the 1860 census was enumerated July 17, Lucy is residing at the residence of the Bishop of Cleveland. She is listed as an assistant housekeeper.

On August 13, 1860 she became a novice and on August 18, 1862 she professed her vows.

DHM records state that in 1870 she offered herself to the Mission of Manitoulin Island (Quebec). It is not known when she actually started this mission. She has not been found on any U.S. 1870 census. She was located on a passenger list traveling to Quebec Canada in 1871. She is also found on an 1871 Canadian census.

On January 22, 1885 a fire destroyed the Indian Mission House. Lucy reportedly suffered burns helping to save the children.

Lucy became very ill on September 21, 1885 and received the last sacraments on Sept 23. She died September 24, and was buried on Sept 26, 1885.
