Clotha Mitchell Powell, of Hopper, passed away, Thursday, May 28, 2020, at the age of 91.
She was born November 8, 1928, to her loving parents, Jim and Edna Yarbrough Thomas.

She was the youngest of seven children and she was preceded in death by her siblings, Evie Hall, Stella “Steller” White, Bessie Anderson, Claburn Thomas, Elsie Bridwell and Lorene Davis.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Tobe Mitchell, her second husband, Martin Powell, and her stepson, Walton Powell.

Mamaw (as she was lovingly called by many) was an avid gardener and regularly kept beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, and she spent much of her free time crocheting, quilting and needle pointing. She loved a good card game or a round of bingo. She also loved to cook for her family, and she made the best dressing in Montgomery County. She was a Christian in her faith, was an avid sports fan, and especially loved to watch the Atlanta Braves and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Her pride and joy was her large family, and she loved to spend time with them whenever she could. Each year the family would get together to celebrate her birthday, with great-grandchildren coming in from out of state to be there.

Before her 88th birthday, she broke her hip and told the family that when she got out of the hospital, she “just wanted to go to Florida and have a Coca Cola on the beach”. After working hard in rehab, she got her wish. Her granddaughters took her to Florida, and she loved to share stories and photos of the trip with all of her friends at the Assisted Living Facility. She was deeply loved by her family and they will miss her greatly.

She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Pete and Donna Mitchell, Ricky and Colleen Mitchell, and Tim and Crystal Mitchell; her stepdaughter, Judy Kilby (Gene); her stepson, Victor Powell; her grandchildren, Gina Richburg (Scott), Nancy Anderson (Johnny), Sara Caldwell (David), Casey Stewart (Chip), Matt Mitchell (Leigh), Rosanne Coon (Nick), Beverly Hill and Jeff and Rodney Kilby; her great-grandchildren, Jordan Smart (Matt), JP Anderson (Sydney), Shelby and Colby Richburg, Chase Robertson, Elysa Hill (Christian), Addison and Olivia Stewart, Katie and Lydia Mitchell, Zoey McPherson, Mallory, Nathan and McKenzie Caldwell, Nikki, Willie, Jannet, Maria, Michael and Jorge Coon, and Spencer and Logan Hill; her great-great-grandchildren, Reagan and Reece Smart; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Graveside services, to honor Mamaw Clotha, will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, June 1, 2020, in the Hopper Cemetery with Bro. Joe Thompson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Matt Mitchell, JP Anderson, Colby Richburg, Chase Robertson, Jeff Kilby and Bruce Price. Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Coon and Nathan Caldwell.

The family would like to thank the Montgomery County Assisted Living and Montgomery County Nursing Home for their love and care for Mamaw Clotha over the past nine years. Leslie Flury has been like a granddaughter to Mamaw and Sherri Morris has helped the family tremendously. You all made her feel loved and safe throughout her time with you.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
