She was from the town of Essen near the Black Forest, as per family oral history. I was told that she and her husband... Matthew Rudat...were from the same town but they did not meet until they arrived in the United States. I remember her but I was only about age 4. I can still see her walking over to greet me at her farmhouse kitchen door. There was an old Coal And/Or wood-fired black stove in the kitchen. I also remember her wearing the old full-length dress and apron. The 60 acre farm was located near Fleetville Pa.
