He was from the town of Essen, near the Black Forest, as per family oral history. His World War 1 Draft Registration Cards (1917-1918) indicated that he was from Sulwalki, Russia. Upon relocating to the United States he was a coal miner in the area of Scranton Pa and later purchased a farm near Fleetville. He was a founding member of Peace Lutheran church. His death was related from his time spent working in the mines. I was fortunate to have known him and his wife.. Minnie.. they were my great grandparents. I have fond memories of them including the old coal stove in their kitchen when I was about age 4.
