Mae attended high school at Forest Grove and Clatskanie, Oregon. She graduated from Clatskanie High School in 1923. She graduated from College in Monmouth, Oregon in what was then called the Oregon Norm School. She taught school in several rural one room school houses, one of which is still standing in the Nehalem Valley.
Mae married August Person on August 25, 1927. They had a son named James David who was born May 4, 1932. August passed away from pneumonia on June 8, 1932.
Mae married Walt Tornblad from Cherry Grove, Oregon on July 1, 1939. They had a son named Paul Douglas who was born May 25, 1942. Mae lived in Cherry Grove until her death in 1971 from breast cancer.
My grandmother Mae passed away before I was born but I always felt that I knew her from the many photos, paintings and needle work she left behind. She was a very talented artist.
