Anna was born to Magnus Bergkvist and Rachel Johansdotter on the the family's farm named Hede in Bolstad parish, Alvsborg (now Vastra Gotaland) county in Sweden. Her father passed away in 1890 and she continued to live with her brother Dan, her mother and her grandparents on the farm. In 1897, her mother remarried to John Hedlund. John Hedlund was a brother of Magnus Bergkvist who operated a farm in Minnesota. John Hedlund's wife recently passed, leaving him with a young daughter. John traveled to Sweden and returned to Minnesota with Anna, her brother and mother where they started another family. In 1903, John Hedlund sold the Minnesota farm and purchased a farm sight unseen in Oregon. The farm was located in a very remote area near the small town of current day Birkenfeld. Later a logging/lumber railroad was built near the farm and the family prospered from logging.

Anna was married to Dr. Benjamin Sears on July 11, 1919 in Mist, Oregon. Benjamin Sears was working as a doctor for logging camps near the farm. Their only son, Benjamin Lloyd Sears, was born November 22, 1919. It looks like Dr. Benjamin Sears soon left the family but still remained married to Anna and helped provide financially for their son. When Dr. Sears passed away in 1931, Anna received his pension for his service in the Spanish American War. It was said that Anna did not handle family deaths well. After her only son passed away in a plain crash in 1950, Anna was no longer able to care for herself. She is buried in an unmarked grave next to her son.
