Terry was born Aug. 4, 1947, in Sterling, the son of Carl D. and Dorothy L. (Bishop) Potts. He married Ann Pederson on June 27, 1970, in Rock Falls. Terry was retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation where he was a highway maintainer in Whiteside County. He enjoyed cooking and was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife, Ann of Sterling; two daughters, Stacey (Scott) Heaps of Sarasota, Florida, and Stephanie Potts of Davenport, Iowa; one son, Daniel (Cristy) Potts of Biggsville; two sisters, Loretta Behrens of Dixon and Norma (Brad) Ludwig of Sterling; one brother, Timothy (Deb) Potts of Sterling; four grandchildren, Lennon and Vaughan Heaps of Sarasota, Florida and Fisher and Evie Potts of Biggsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Troy Potts.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sterling. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Mark Oehlert officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to St. John’s Church and Happy Tails.
